Peace of Mind Program

You take great care of your dog. That shouldn't stop after you've gone.

Just as you provide for other members of your family, you should include provisions for your dog in your will or living trust.

It is not always possible to make private arrangements with family members or friends to care for your pets after you pass away. Even if you do, circumstances and friends' capacity may change. You can designate in your will or trust that your animals be entrusted to the care of Muttville.

Muttville takes great effort to find wonderful new homes for every healthy or treatable animal left in our care.

How to Enroll

  1. Have an estate planning attorney draw up a will or trust for you. Have your attorney name family members or friends, and if they aren't available, Muttville to take your animals upon your permanent incapacity or passing.

The following is suggested language for a will or a trust concerning a pet:  I give any dog(s) that I may own at the time of my death to [family member/friend]. If he/she is unable to provide for my dog(s) I give my dog(s) to Muttville. I authorize Muttville to evaluate my dog(s) and determine in its exclusive judgment whether the animal is in a condition to be placed in a new home. I authorize Muttville to place my pet(s) in a loving home, or to oversee an appropriate organization to place my pet(s) in a loving home.

  2. Name Muttville as a beneficiary of your will, trust, life insurance, or retirement accounts in any amount. A legacy gift ensures the future of all homeless animals. By including Muttville in your estate plans, you will automatically become a member of the Jimmy Love Legacy Circle and you will receive all the benefits associated with membership in our legacy program.
  3. Provide Muttville with a copy of your documents so we'll know we're listed as a beneficiary. At that time, Muttville will send a Dog Biography Form for your dog(s). The information you supply will help Muttville provide your dog(s) with the best possible new home. This information can be updated at any time.
  4. Keep a copy of the Dog Biography Form with your will or trust and inform your executor or trustee of the program.

Restrictions

Please note that this program is for dogs only. This program is limited to two dogs per family. We may consider accepted more than two dogs on a case-by-case basis.
